Batman: Arkham Asylum for the Xbox 360 takes the player on a twisted journey, as Batman of course, through Gotham’s most notorious “facility” for the criminally insane.
There have been so many super hero games made throughout the ages; almost none of them succeed in properly capturing and portraying the look, feel, sound, visuals or atmosphere of the original creation. Can I get an amen from the crowd? Am I right?
Well I’m honestly glad to say that the mediocrity ends here. Batman: Arkham Asylum is a fantastic game that uses the original cast’s voices to propel this title into the “triple-A” realm of videogames, previously a realm reserved for usually non-DC or Marvel games.

In the never ending supply of movie tie-in games, few barely achieve anything beyond mediocrity. Which brings us to our latest game, Quantum of Solace, developed by the same team that made Call of Duty: World at War, Treyarch. Can a team that has already put out a good FPS title be able to do the 007 franchise justice?

In a season of blockbuster movies it is inevitable to get a bunch of movie tie in games. Make it a family movie and the chances of a tie in game are increased. Now enter Monsters Vs. Aliens, a Dreamworks movie following a group of misfit monsters and their fight to stop aliens bent on world domination. Oh I can hear the kids yelling for this game now. Like most movie tie in games, most barely teeter on the edge of mediocrity. So can Monsters Vs. Aliens break this mold, or is this another movie tie in game destined for the discount bin?

Trials HD is the first Xbox 360 project for developer RedLynx and hopes to bring the glitz and glamor of trials riding to the Xbox Live Arcade gaming community.
Whilst this is RedLynx’s first adventure into the Xbox 360, this is in fact the second trials riding game they have produced as this is a sequel to a popular PC-based version. But I will go out on a limb and say that the majority of people probably do not know what trials riding is, so first a bit of background.
Trials riding is the specialized sport of traveling from point A to point B on a motorbike without putting your feet on the floor. Sounds simple? Unfortunately between point A and point B is a series of obstacles and ramps to traverse. Although against the clock the emphasis is placed on precision and balance so heavy time penalties are imposed for putting a foot down or falling over.
Now, I’ll be honest, trials riding is not the most popular motor sport in the world. I vaguely remember watching a trials series on UK TV called Kick Start in the late 80s. I know there was a British guy called Dougie Lampkin who was very good at it but he must have retired by now. It was entertaining to watch but hardly inspired me to take up the sport.
On paper a trials riding simulation for the Xbox 360 does not really have much of a wow factor. Which is the same conclusion that RedLynx came to. So, instead of a realistic simulator with perfect physics engine and courses based on the major pro circuits from around the world (I couldn’t think of any either). Trials HD is a fast paced simulator with a perfect physics engine but with courses that resemble a roller coaster ride. They have huge jumps to make, huge drops to avoid, hoops of fire to fly through and a vast quantity of explosives to launch you to the finish line whilst engulfed in flames.

Zombies tend to be misrepresented in video games. They are portrayed as unintelligent and sluggish, simply having to rely on sheer numbers to pose any sort of threat. They are the lowest of the low in the world of nightmare creatures in video games. Thankfully Valve is mounting a long overdue PR campaign for zombies in the form of Left 4 Dead.

SNK Playmores’s King of Fighter series has been around for quite some time now. The first game in the series was King of Fighters ‘94 which originally released in Arcades and on Neo-Geo. The game had a release almost every single year up until 2005. During the four years between 2005 and 2009 SNK has been hard at work on the re-birth of KOF. King of Fighters XII is the result of that re-birth. So is KOF still the “King” of fighters? Or have they dropped from royalty status?

Unreal Tournament is a series that has been around since 1999 on the PC, 2000 on the PlayStation 2 and 2001 on the Dreamcast. I remember losing hours of my time to this game with a bunch of friends huddled around the television. Being deemed “Godlike” with everyone around to see how skilled you are is so satisfying.
This popular series finally made its way over to the PlayStation 3 back in December of 2007 in the form of Unreal Tournament III (3), one of the few games that came out on the system before releasing on the Xbox 360. While it was a good game when it released and had rubust online support, there wasn’t any local splitscreen. If I had reviewed it when it first came out, I’d have given it a 3/5. But with the recent Titan/2.0 patch and DLC content, this game is seeing a lot more playtime on my Xbox 360. Read More »
